On some level, he understands that Juniper wasn’t exactly subtle, and V is just being V about it by humoring her and embellishing the whole thing. On the other, he really has to wonder just how much of this is sincere.
And then he gets to Did Uncle Declan Steelsong get to smile and laugh a lot? and all of those thoughts swiftly leave his mind. Something in his chest twists, fingers closing tightly around the phone in his hand like he’s holding some kind of precious treasure. ]

[ Juniper is utterly mortified for her very serious, very carefully crafted anthropological survey to be revealed in this way... She's unable to do anything but look on in horror as Declan ingests all of that qualitative data with lightning speed.
...Though, let's be real. Juniper would sooner perform a séance than any actual real science.
She's not sure what to expect, in all honesty. Will Declan be angry with her, for prying and being nosy? Will he surprise her by providing his share of details? Will he turn this into a drama by saying that he didn't have as wonderful as a time as V thinks he does!?
In the end, he does none of those things, instead expressing a (very sweet) sentiment about her, Juniper Bug Veltris, who was not at all involved in the date except for having been the entire reason it happened in the first place. That's not the point. The point is that the survey was about him and V!?
And so she blinks at him as he holds her phone close to him, as the words (slowly) settle in her little bunny brain. ]
